Meet Joe… Shed Suite’s New Intro Video
Shed Suite is such an exciting and complex system, it’s pretty hard to explain in just a few minutes!
That was my challenge.. to write a short story to easily explaining what Shed Suite really is.
I tend to love a good challenge, so I dusted off my creative writing skills and got to work.
I started by putting myself in the shoes of Joe, a shed business owner, thinking of the main things Joe struggles with in his business. I knew there were many things that Shed Suite will be doing for Joe, but I had to think of the top 3 to keep the video under 2 minutes.
The original script was WAY too long, as you can imagine trying to explain a full service software solution in under 200 words is… difficult.🤔
So I called in the Big Guns, my high school creative writing teacher, my Mom.😊
We used Google Docs and did some serious hacking to come up with the final script of 311 words. This was, of course, more than the video production company and I had agreed on, but I did some negotiating and we agreed to a revised price for the project.
The whole animated video production process is actually quite fascinating. There is so much time invested into a single project. Each project usually takes 6–10 weeks to finish.
I’ll take you through it really quick…
First off, they take the script and sketch out the characters and objects that will be on different screens to make the “Story Board”. Once the story board is approved, the sketches are illustrated and we select a voice over artist. The voice over artist then records the script while the animation team brings the characters to life to produce the animated storyboard. This, of course, needs to again be approved by myself with any revision requests. The production team then combines the voice over with the animated storyboard while adding sound effects to create the final animated video. Pretty cool, huh?
I sure learned a lot about what it takes to make a quality animated promo video, and I admit, I had quite a lot of fun writing the script.
